John and Karin Sedewar's son Michael even at a very young age knew the potential of the property that our beautiful cabin now sits on. In fact, it was his persistence and love for the outdoors that would help carry our family into the future!
Michael would ride around on his Honda Big Red three-wheeler on a neighboring property from where our homestead sits on Shaffer Mountain Road. He would frequent this once heavily wooded property, always envisioning "How great this place would be with a cabin on it". And, As time will tell, He was right!
One day a curious but concerned Michael came across a situation in which a man who had purchased the property to log it and had improperly made a road to our property with his bulldozer through another neighboring property. He made his way on that Big Red to where the man was working, and he inquired about what would be become of the property after the trees were logged and hauled off. The man informed Michael that he would sell the property and as it turned out he would offer a price no one could pass up!
Michael rode home in a hurry and told Karin about what he had learned from his conversation with the logger. She felt that excitement as well and told Michael to "take her up there right now."
THE PURCHASE
After much thought and much convincing his dad John, 15-year-old Michael was the "go between" and had single handedly negotiated the deal between his family and the man for the purchase of the property. They would settle on a price that was even better than the asking offer!
Then, on the day before Thanksgiving, on November 27, 1991, the purchase deal was finalized, and the property became part of would be the Sedewar legacy.
April of 1992 work began to make the driveway from Shaffer Road to the top of the mountain accessible by vehicle. September of 1992 the well was drilled 410 feet down and we hit water! December of 1992 the power line was cut out and ran to the property.
The property sat vacant with the exception of a "place to enjoy the view".
That was until 2011 when John and Karin began discussing the plan to build a cabin on the land.
Then, in April 2014 the foundation was dug and built with placement of the actual cabin to follow in early June 2014. It reached its completion about three weeks later.
On July 4th, 2014, we celebrated as a family what would be our first holiday at the beautiful and majestic Allegheny Front Experience Cabin!
PRESENT DAY
The rest is history as every year we continue to host many wonderful people and their families and friends. Today, the cabin is primarily rented out to those wishing to get away from the everyday "Hussle and bustle of life" or to just experience nature and everything it has to offer. We host guests from our local area to all over the country and have even hosted a few from other countries!
As We have enjoyed sharing our own "little piece of heaven" with others and our future is brighter than ever! We look forward to opening a new chapter in this "Sedewar legacy" and look forward to having you stay with us!
